College View Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist church. We value a gospel-based approach (Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness) to ministry, expressing in community, saturated in prayer, centered around God’s Word, empowered by God’s Spirit, focused on God’s glory, and lived out daily in our lives. Jesus Christ’s message is such great news that, as a church, we are actively committed to communicating His message across the street and around the world!
As a Christian fellowship, we are comprised of a variety of Christian believers from various denominational backgrounds. We share the common beliefs of the infallibility of Scripture; the historical authenticity of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; Salvation alone in Jesus; and the church’s mission to spread the good news that people can be given eternal life in Jesus alone. Since we are Southern Baptist, we intentionally emphasize all points of the Baptist Faith and Message in our doctrinal beliefs.
BRIEF HISTORY OF COLLEGE VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH
College View Baptist Church was born in the hearts of several dedicated Christians who saw a growing need in Mesa. With help from First Southern Baptist of Mesa, the Apache Baptist Association, and the Home mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention this new work, initially known as College View Mission, began near Mesa Community College.
1970 – March: Bible studies and worship gatherings begin in a member’s home
1970 – June: The first pastor is called and hired and services were held in a portable building at Mesa Community College
1974 – A new pastor is called to College View Mission and plans begin for construction of the first building
1975 – November: College View Mission begins its first services in their own newly constructed building
1977 – September: College View Mission is constituted as College View Baptist Church and a new education building is dedicated on the property.
1985 – March: College View Baptist Church breaks ground for a new worship center with seating for 600 and total capacity of 1,000
1987 – February: A new pastor answers the call to College View Baptist Church and faithfully serves for over 27 years
2015 – October: Pastor Mark Ellington accepts the call to College View Baptist Church and we look forward to many more great years of fellowship, growth, and community.
